The Exorcism of The Kills

Well I'm sure if you are reading this you are reading the posts of all the other people who attended the Bloc Party and Kills show on monday and this one will be no different. On a sidenote does anybody know if the Noisettes did actually play or not?

I have to say I was thrilled with the performance by The Kills and if you've seen the Exorcism of Emily Rose you might join in my idea that the lead singer of the Kills, named either Hotel or VV (just not sure who is who in the band), looked like she was possessed with her extremely jerky movements on stage and the hair covering her face for the first four songs or so. I absolutely loved her stage presence, and on another sidenote The Exorcism of Emily Rose was a bit of a let down movie. The only thing I was disappointed about with the Kills set was the lack of tunage from their first album 'Keep On Your Mean Side' besides Kissy Kissy and Fried My Little Brains the remainder of the songs were off of the 'No Wow' album. A little more album diversity would've been nice but I guess you can only do so much with an 8-10 song set.

After hanging in the middle of the crowd for the Kills, I slowly began to maneuvre myself closer for Bloc Party but got stopped behind some uber-geek with a terrible attempt at a fro, white guys can't grow fro's. Thankfully however, some gents in the back decided they wanted to get to the front as well and started pushing their way up to the front and bumped into the nerdy white guy and then he started complaining so they jumped behind me and pushed me right through the nerd and proceeded to use me as a battering ram to get through the crowd. I had no problem with this because it allowed me to accomplish my goal of getting closer to the stage. After a bit of physicality in the front of the crowd I was able to squeeze myself up to the second row, which worked out quite well because there was two girls in front of me that were short and they made a much more comfortable wall than if I were to have made it front row and been crushed against the metal barrier. I found Bloc Party to be quite good live but despite large amounts of time spent listening to music my ear is not trained very well for hearing the inadequacies others critique during a concert, also the positioning of myself in the middle of all the action doesn't create a great environment for properly judging good sound.

With all the fun and excitement I was taken by surprise by the second encore, as it was not listed on the setlist, which I could visibly see on the stage, so if infact it was an unplanned second encore that made it all the more worthwhile. The one disappointment I had with their set was my missed opportunities at snagging some memorabilia, as I had gotten my hand partially on a drumstick on two occasions and a setlist but in all instances was unable to get it fully into my possession due to factors such as pulling an abdomenal muscle, being a gentleman and letting the gal in front of me take the setlist (stupid move seeing as I would never have to see this girl again). Anyways, after-it-all was said and done I was soaked from head-to-toe in sweat and it was most definitely worth it. Although up until that point I had not seen any of the londoner's that I knew that were also attending the show. However, upon walking outside topless I noticed Eano and said hello who was also with the lovely Paige, and they have much more interesting blog posts for the after party extravaganza's.

And that's my little blurb on that, and now I'm going to stop because for some reason my head feels like it is weightless yet weighs a thousand pounds. It's fucking messed at the moment and I don't know why but I'll take this state of sober inebriation elsewhere for now.

One Day From Forever

Well it's been a good six months since I last posted anything on my blog and probably seven months since I've posted anything worthwhile but I guess since it's now september and everyone is heading back to school I feel like writing again. Or maybe it's just the insane boredom right now that is causing me to write as I have no idea what I'm going to write about.

I have decided that if I ever become musically talented enough to make an album, which is highly unlikely, I would title it "One Day From Forever". My reasoning for this is not to clear at the moment. It may possibly be because as we live each day we could quite well be on the verge of discovering how to live forever but I don't want to live forever. So every day we live could be that one day from forever but inevitably we all die and that leaves us to wonder that if we were to die now could we have possibly lived forever if we had survived one more day. Maybe I'll just give up my hopes of making an album and turn my album title into a poem.

However, writing a poem doesn't seem to really matter at the moment because during a conversation at the bar on saturday night I was jokingly told that my life is going nowhere and at the moment I'd have to agree. Let's look at the situation right now: I am not in school, no desire to be in school, living at home, I don't have a fulltime job. Now this would have a whole lot more effect if I was forty and I do realize that only being twenty I still have plenty of time to figure things out. In a way I like the fact that my life is going nowhere but that's probably because I'm afraid of my life actually going somewhere. All I do know is that at this moment in time people are dying but I continue to live makes you wonder if they were one day from forever.

I give you credit if you are still reading this because I certainly know that this isn't as philosophically, politically, sexually or humourously exciting as some of the other more notable blogs on the scene, which I do however suggest visiting Brian's views on the blogopocalypse at Rants, Rock and Reason, it is very insightful. So that took me about ten minutes to remember how to use basic HTML so I have forgotten what I was talking about so it's time to move on to some upcoming events.

I will be seeing Bloc Party, The Kills and The Noisettes on the 12th of September in Toronto and then a week later it's time for some 90's grunge with Pearl Jam on the 19th. It's unbelievable how much I can't wait to see them again, unfortunately I think I start work that day so I hope I'm on days cause if I had to sell my ticket I'd probably have to consider hanging myself or finding a less painful way to die. As for the upcoming weekend I may head up to Manitoulin Island with my buddy John to his cottage for some fishing, drinking and bacon. You may ask why bacon is included but it is a definite must to purchase a slab of uncut bacon, then cut it into thick but not to thick squares and cook it over an open fire. It's honestly one of the greatest tasting things this world has to offer; juicy inside and crispy outside. I shouldn't have talked about it because now I'm craving for some.

I definitely need to make a road trip to London soon too if my funds will allow it because I really want to see the city again and the long list of people who oddly enough want me to come visit. It could be tough to fit everyone in on just weekend unless they all showed up at the same place but highly unlikely. Anyways, it's time to go cure my boredom with sleeping instead of writing. Let's see if this updating of my blog continues or if it was just a sporadic addition.

Number One Terrorist On Bush's List Is Dead

Pope John Paul II has died meaning that George Bush's 'Crusade' to start another World War has received some positive news, as the Pope an advocator for Peace stood in the way of the President's ultimate goal. Mr. Bush has only met this terrorist once.

"The president and the pope met last June in Rome. The pope repeated his opposition to the war in Iraq, and rebuked Mr. Bush for abuses at the Abu-Ghraib prison."

After this meeting the President was quoted saying "He is an inspiration to us all. Laura and I join millions of Americans and so many around the world, who are praying for the [death of the] Holy Father." The President also linked the Pope to other terrorists claiming, "his Holiness is a faithful servant of God."

The President also "thanked the pope for his moral leadership, and awarded him America's highest civilian honor," which in this case is death for his outspokenness towards the US led War in Iraq.

In closing, the "White House officials say it is not an appropriate time to speculate on whether the president would attend the pope's funeral" because he isn't sure if his sore hip will allow him to dance upon the Pope's casket.

Bloggus Hiatus

Well over the last little while my interest in updating my blog on a regular basis has been fading just for lack of anything I wish to write. A continuous trend in my life is get into something, get out of something, then get back into it again. At the moment I'm in the out of blogging phase. However, I shall continue to read and comments on blogs I don't foresee many updates on here for the next little while so I just thought I'd let the few readers know I'm putting myself on a bloggus hiatus for a little while.

Have a good one.

Mr. Self Destruct Set Yourself On Fire

Well it's now March and the summer concerts are being announced like it's almost here. The first major announcement besides the Oasis show, which I will not be attending was the announcement of two Nine Inch Nails shows in Toronto at the Koolhaus. Fantastic smaller venue for them too play, one major problem fucking hard as hell to get tickets for it. I tried today with the pre-sale done through the Nine Inch Nails website but to no avail as even signing in right at 4pm when the sale started I could not get tickets. So I shall have to try my last glimmer of hope when the public sale for the rest of the tickets happens this friday at 5pm. Goodluck to me, I'm sure I'm only like one of 50, 000+ people trying to get tickets for one of the two shows.

So with my failure earlier in the day I wanted to not make this day a total loss concert wise, it was a good day other than that, so I headed down to Speed City Records to grab some tickets to the Stars concert at Call The Office next thursday. As for some other concert announcements I am highly anticipating is a tour from my favorite band who have a new album coming out in the coming months, that's right folks, I'm talking about the almighty Weezer. Hopefully they don't announce a show around here for July, August, or September because I'll most likely be sailing during those months and would not be able to attend.

For those of you who don't wish to attend the Stars wsg Apostle of Hustle show next thursday, I do believe my good MIT friend Paige has organized a concert for the Festival of Arts week with Projet Orange so if you don't go see Stars check that concert out for sure cause a lot of hard work went into it.

Cut With Care

Well I went and saw Tegan and Sara perform at Call The Office on Monday night and they were excellent and furthermore absolutely gorgeous. If you want to see some great pics of the show check out Rachel's photos.

Looking at some of my celebrity crushes that will never amount to anything more than me seeing them perform at a concert or watching them on the big screen I noticed something that some girls should just think about. Not every haircut has to be done by a professional hairstylist or be perfectly layered or coloured to make yourself attractive. In some cases an intentionally mis-managed haircut can prove to be more beautiful than anything I've seen before, I have provided a few examples below of some not typically considered hot haircuts but I'd take any one of these girls over somebody like Beyonce anyday.

Starting off with the wonderfully eccentric lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Miss Karen O.

Next up we have Brody Dalle, who I would prefer not on drugs but still a beautiful person and lead singer of The Distillers.

Now we shall get to the aforementioned band I saw on Monday. Here we see the lovely Sara Quin.

Now we have the wonderful other half and I'm not playing favorites by putting two pictures up but she was the only one where I could find a really good chop cut that is gorgeous, and the second one is from monday night, the also lovely Tegan Quin.

All I want to leave you with is ladies don't be afraid to stray from the normal, who knows how beautiful you could possibly be with an eccentric hairstyle.

Another Day In Time

It's February 14th, 2005, and what does this mean absolutely nothing. It's just another day in time. That's all I shall say about that.

So we are in the time of Lent and I hear people talking about what trivial thing they are giving up to offer as some sort of sacrifice. I personally don't see the point in doing this because in most cases the thing being given up for forty days does not affect anybody else life except your own and even the effect on your own life is usually extremely minimal. As much as my belief in any religion has wavered towards non-belief in the last few years I do believe that this is not what Jesus Christ would have wanted. Now my knowledge of Lent is also fading over the years but Jesus' sacrifice was so that he inevitably may help others, not so that 2000 years later we can give up swearing, fast food, caffeine or some other fashionable idea that helps absolutely no one but ourselves. Therefore, I no longer participate in Lent nor have I ever participated because giving up something from my everyday life does not help the plight of others, so I shall continue to indulge myself at fast food restaurants, I shall continue to swear and use all the other everyday luxuries that I have at my disposal.

Now for those of you who may read this and are participating in Lent do remember that this is my opinion and I do not wish for some sort of defensive rebuttal to my point because the reason I wear an anti-religion button on my jacket is because I do not want people forcing their beliefs on me. I have no issues with people believing in religion until you attempt to force it upon me. That being said if you do have another comment you wish to speak about on the above feel completely free to speak your mind because everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As for other issues on my mind nothing overly exciting and fascinating is coming to mind but I shall continue writing about something because I have an hour to kill before my MIT 026 Information Retrieval Midterm.

Speaking of midterms and other such events I am fascinated and in some cases jealous of those people who have the determination to sit and study for hours upon hours, where as I haven't done any of the readings for this class, let alone even bought the course pack for the class yet. I always wonder if I'm really just a mediocre kid with an average intelligence that was able to bullshit my way to high marks in highschool and have no come to realize that my intelligence is not near what I and others have anticipated of me. Due to this false belief in my overall intelligence it is only setting myself to believe that I'm inevitably a failure when my marks drop by nearly 20% if not more, when in reality I am actuality doing what my true potential is actually at and if I had achieved these marks in highschool my mindset would be that of me achieving my potential instead of being a failure. I am aware of the typical overall percentage drop between university and highschool but that does not change my ideas of the school system only inevitably setting myself up for failure and not given enough determination to overcome those failures.
